Jamie's W116 page (Mercedes-Benz
450SE, or S-Class)
This
is a page dedicated to my $100 car, "Rumsfeld,"
and all others of its kind. I hope you enjoy the elegance
and flavor of these wonderful machines. I will post pictures here
of "Rummie's" restoration, and some reference material about my experiences
with the car.

April 2003: On my spring break I accomplished a lot!
- Disassembled, reupholstered, and reassembled the rear seats.
- Rebuilt both fog lights
- Degreased engine
- Painted air cleaner, oil fill cover, and front license plate holder
- Used black fabric spray to renew package shelf covering
- Used carb cleaner to dissolve most of the paint on the valve covers,
and used a small brush to smush the remaining paint into a more attractive
arrangement
Since April, I've been working on the woodwork in the interior. I
added a wooden vent panel I bought on ebay, and a wooden shifter console
I bvought for peanuts at Pick-N-Pull and refinished. They look nice,
and round out the interior. I also found a few control knobs that
were missing, so, except for his paint, Rumsfeld is 100% there! (Unlike
his planning for Iraq!!)

Here are Rummie's credentials: His VIN plate, his Certification tag,
his Chassis number, and his Body and Paint numbers. I haven't found
his engine tag yet...

Howabout some Rummie history? First, there was a company called Daimler-Benz...

So, apparently they come out with a new line every 5 years. These
were the first V-8 engines for Mercedes-Benz. Overhead cam,
electronic fuel injection, 275.8 cubic inches.
